Degrees Offered

Undergraduate – BA, Specialisation in Counselling


Avondale's Bachelor of Arts (BA), specialisation in Counselling, is designed to equip graduates to be fully qualified and registered counsellors. This course is developed to give you an understanding of the various issues that people face, and how best to lead them into positive change.
  • Includes clinical placement providing approximately 100 hours of face to face counselling experience
  • Provides the foundations for a career as a counsellor (relationship and individual), Careers Officer, School Counsellor, Welfare Worker, Youth Worker.

Bachelor of Arts (Specialisation in Counselling)

Course duration: Three years full-time (or part-time equivalent)
Study mode: Distance Education (with a residential component for some units)

NEW! Postgraduate - Graduate Diploma in Counselling

Ideally suited to those who wish to move into a new career or ad a new skill set to their current role, this program meets the professional requirements of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia and renders students industry ready.
  • No prior education in counselling or psychology required. You do need a previous bachelor’s level degree.
  • Experiential learning
  • Emphasis on Christian values and spiritual integration
  • Includes clinical placement providing approximately 100 hours of face to face counselling experience
  • Provides the foundations for a career in school counselling, gambling counselling, private practice, telephone counselling, relationship counselling, drug and alcohol counselling, welfare and/or youth work counselling.

Course duration: Two years full-time (or part-time equivalent with up to six years to complete)
Study mode: Distance Education (with a residential component for some units)
