About


The Undergraduate Certificate in Tertiary English course helps students seeking alternative entry to their degree of choice. It is for recent school leavers who have not achieved the required entry level ATAR, including those with no ATAR. It may also be suitable for mature age students seeking alternative entry to a bachelor degree.

The course enables students to develop the generic literacy and academic skills needed for higher education. 


Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of the Undergraduate Certificate in Tertiary English course, graduates will be able to:
  • demonstrate skills and literacies appropriate for further education.
  • demonstrate knowledge and concepts with depth in the chosen areas of learning;
  • demonstrate effective research and communication skills and the capacity to respond critically (showing ability to analyse and evaluate) to information and ideas from a range of sources in solving problems;
  • work effectively with others, demonstrating initiative and independence as well as a capacity to function collegially;
  • demonstrate an informed respect for individual worth, cultural and social diversity, and environmental sustainability;
  • demonstrate the capacity to make ethical decisions that are linked to Christian values;

Career Opportunities


Upon successful completion and satisfactory performance in the one semester (minimum of three units) of the Undergraduate Certificate in Tertiary English course, students may apply to enroll in an Avondale undergraduate degree. This course may give students credit to their chosen degree. 


Admission Criteria


DIRECT ENTRY

Applicants are generally expected to have completed Year 12 (or equivalent) with a minimum ATAR of 45 or equivalent.

WORK AND LIFE EXPERIENCE

Applicants who have completed Year 12 OR who are 19 years and above by March 1 in the year of commencement of the course may be required to sit UniTEST/TOWA.

Those who do not obtain appropriate UniTEST/TOWA scores may qualify to enter following further testing.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Overseas applicants will have their entry qualifications assessed in accordance with the Admission to Higher Education Undergraduate Courses Policy as well as the International Students Policy

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English as per the Admission to Higher Education Undergraduate Course Policy found at http://www.avondale.edu.au/about/policies/display/?s=MjQ=
