• Be 16 + years
• Complete a language, literacy, and numeracy skills assessment*

These entry requirements will be confirmed through information collected on the enrolment form.

*Avondale will assess competence in literacy, language, and numeracy using the Basic Key Skill Builder (BKSB) test. An exit level of 2 or 3 will be needed for entry into a Certificate III qualification.

Physical Requirements
Individual support workers often perform physical tasks as part of their job role. Learners will need a reasonable level of fitness to assist clients with mobility issues, to stand and walk for long periods, frequent bending over, and use PPE as required.

All students are required to
Provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Provide a copy of a valid ID with a picture and signature
Able to meet any work placement requirements

All students must also be able to meet the following requirements to enable successful participation in this course and work placement:
• Access and able to use a computer and internet
• Able to commit to work placement requirements
• Able to obtain a Working With Children Check / National Police Clearance check / NDIS check
• Able to meet the physical requirements

CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support is composed of a combination of 15 units of competency. To satisfy the course requirements and to qualify for a Certificate III award, you must successfully demonstrate competency in the following units:

Students will attend class 3 days a week on the Lake Macquarie Campus. Additional time outside of class may be required to complete assessments, practice skills and to complete work placement hours. Your trainer will provide you with a training plan to assist you to achieve your study goal.

To complete this qualification within 6 months students will typically need to spend 3 days (21 hours) a week working through their study. 2 of these days will be in class on the Lake Macquarie Campus. Your trainer will provide you with a training plan to assist you to achieve your study goal.

Assessments will include:
• Completion of the short answer questions
• Demonstration of skills in simulated / workplace environment
• Work placement
• Third party reports

Credit Transfer (CT):
If you have previously completed any units listed in this course or from the CHC33021 training package at Avondale or with any other registered training organisation, you can request Credit Transfer. All Credit Transfer requests need to be done as part of the application process.

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)
If you have previous working experience in Aged Care (within the last 5 years), you may request RPL. To support your RPL request you will be asked to demonstrate and provide evidence of learning related to the unit/s you are seeking RPL for.

This course includes a minimum of 120 hours of work placement in a suitable workplace to complete practical tasks and demonstrate competency. The work placement allows students to demonstrate competency which contributes to the assessment.

What is work placement?
When you enrol in a course that has practical requirements you need to show that you can perform these skills. This applies to any student studying a nationally recognised qualification or an under/post-graduate degree. Evidence is collected from the host workplace where you have spent your time practicing skills that show you can fulfill the assessment requirements.

Who needs to do a work placement?
Anyone who is not currently working in the job role designed for the qualification being undertaken. This includes people who might be working in the industry but are not working in the job role.

How does work placement work?
You will need to source your host employer as part of the work placement program. To do this you will receive communication and tools to help you start this process. Avondale is able to assist in providing a placement but only at select locations. Placements can be completed with more than one host employer and can be done throughout your studies, in one block, or in multiple blocks providing you with flexibility as you study

Work placement requirements
Uniform:
• Work placement shirt ($30)
• Black enclosed leather shoes
• Black pants

Your work placement provider may have requirements that you need to meet. These may include:
• Evidence of current immunisations
• A National Police Clearance
• A current Working With Children Check
• NDIS Check

Students are responsible for ensuring they meet the work placement requirements and any associated costs.
