About:Jane Fernandez is currently serving as Vice-President (Quality & Strategy) at Avondale College of Higher Education. In this role, Jane provides leadership in course quality assurance and in developing institutional strategies for the college's strategic vision in maintaining quality and standards. Jane's most recent achievement was her leadership in and management of the College's successful application for self-accrediting status. Self-Accrediting status was granted on December 12th 2014. Previous to this, Jane served as Vice-President (Learning and Teaching) from 2011. Previous to her appointment as Vice-President, Jane served as Senior Lecturer in English in the School of Humanities and Creative Arts. Jane's early career as teacher and principal in a school for underprivileged children in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, shaped her love for teaching. Impressed with its Christian ethos, she came to Avondale to study secondary education with a major in English, graduating in 1988. She subsequently completed a Bachelor of Arts with honours and then a Doctor of Philosophy through Macquarie University. Jane completed a Masters in Tertiary Management with Melbourne University in 2014. Jane joined Avondale's staff in 2001. Since then, she has authored a book on K S Maniam, a writer of the Indian diaspora, edited books and contributed articles and chapters to academic journals and inter-disciplinary publications and presented papers at international conferences.
