Admission Criteria

Whether you are a Year 12 student, a non-school leaver, or you want to further your studies, there are many ways to gain admission into your chosen course at Avondale.

To determine your eligibility for entry, select the option that applies to you from the following categories.

Recent Secondary Education


If you finished Year 12 within the last two years, or you are currently studying Year 12 and complete the Higher School Certificate (HSC), you may be eligible for direct entry into an Avondale degree using your:
  • Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)
  • International Baccalaureate
  • Interstate equivalent

You could also be eligible for entry by using adjustment factors to boost your ATAR.

No ATAR?

If you completed Year 12 within the last two years but you do not have an ATAR, or you did not achieve the results required for your chosen course, there are a number of pathways to your preferred degree.

Previous Higher Education Study


If you have successfully completed or partially completed (at least two units) of higher education study at an accredited university or higher education provider, or you successful completed an accredited bridging or enabling course, this may provide the basis for direct entry into a bachelor degree at Avondale.

Advanced Standing

Your previous study may count as credit towards your Avondale course. This can reduce both the cost and length of your course.

Vocational Education And Training (VET)


If you have completed a TAFE/VET Certificate IV (or higher), you are eligible to apply for undergraduate courses at Avondale. Your study at TAFE/VET does not need to related to your selected area of study. However, trade certificates are not accepted for entry into the Bachelor of Nursing.

If you completed a TAFE/VET Certificate III in a relevant technology and applied studies teaching area, with a minimum of three years recent post qualification experience in the industry, this may provide the basis for direct entry into Avondale’s Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary)

Postgradute Study


If you have completed an undergraduate degree and you want to advance your studies, or you wish to pursue a different career, Avondale offers a range of postgraduate courses.

Postgraduate coursework

Postgraduate coursework degrees deliver content through a set unit program, similar to a Bachelor degree, but at a more advanced level. Coursework study allows you to deepen your knowledge within a particular study area or purse new study at an advanced level.

Postgraduate coursework degrees which you can study include:
  • Graduate Certificates
  • Graduate Diplomas
  • Masters degrees

Postgraduate research

Postgraduate research programs (also known as Higher Degree Research) allow you to develop your knowledge and experience within your field by completing a major research project under the supervision of an academic.

Postgraduate research degrees which you can study include:
  • Masters of Philosophy
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Postgraduate courses

Overseas Qualifications


If you are applying on the basis of overseas qualifications, your eligibility for entry will be assessed in accordance with our Admission to Higher Education Undergraduate Courses Policy and International Students Policy. This includes both academic entry and English language competency requirements.
