Sydney Campus
Sydney Campus
State registered nurse training has been conducted at the Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAH), Wahroonga, since 1927. Since 1981, following NSW Higher Education Board approval for a higher education-based nurse education, the nursing program has been offered by Avondale's Faculty of Nursing and Health.
With the introduction of videoconferencing facilities, the first semester of the Bachelor of Nursing may now be undertaken on either the Lake Macquarie or the Sydney campuses. However, if you enrol for the first semester on the Sydney campus you will be required to travel to the Lake Macquarie campus to attend science laboratory sessions. The remainder of the nursing course is offered on the Sydney campus located in the grounds of the SAH. The SAH provides residential facilities and much of the clinical experience for students.
Residential facilities
At the Sydney Campus the Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAN) provides a residence with single rooms and a shared kitchen with limited cooking facilities. Access to the cafeteria meals or the cafe at the San is available on a pay as you eat basis.
A small grocery store, chemist, cafe and hairdresser are located a short walk from the “San’. A student bus service operates to transport students to other shopping venues at various times.
For health services, a medical centre in the grounds of the San offers independent medical and dental services to the public. Dental practices are also located at the local shopping complex in Wahroonga.
Recreational facilities
At the Sydney Campus a student common room is available in the Faculty of Nursing and Health and the Sydney Adventist Hospital grounds contain a recreation room, tennis courts, basketball courts and a swimming pool for student use. Student Services staff are available on the Sydney campus to assist students, and the Avondale Nursing Students Association (ANSA) is active on the Sydney Campus. This campus has an affiliation with the Fox Valley Community Church for the organisation of worship services and events.
