Student ID Card

All students enrolling at Avondale University (Avondale) require a Student Identification Card (ID card).

ID cards are used for identification, building access, photocopying and printing, accommodation and parking (if applicable), and transactions such as borrowing books from Avondale libraries. Your ID card is current for the duration of your enrolment at Avondale.

NOTE: If you already have an ID card, you may not require a new card. Email the Reception to confirm before applying for a new card – [email protected].

Your card must be:

  • Carried whenever you are on campus;
  • Presented when borrowing books from Avondale libraries;
  • Presented when accessing secure buildings, the cafeteria, labs and specialised teaching spaces;
  • Displayed on your desk for the duration of all examinations;
  • Presented when using public transport.
How to Request a New Card

If you are a new student or you are requesting your ID card for the first time, please follow the steps below to obtain a new ID card.

STEP 1: Accept your offer and enrol

You need to accept your offer and enrol in at least one unit via Student Connect before requesting your ID card. You can find more information and a step by step guide on Getting Started.

STEP 2: Prepare your identification documents

When applying for an ID card, you must upload one of the following government-issued identity documents.

  • Valid passport
  • Current Australian driver’s licence
  • Current proof of age or photo identity card

NOTE: If you have legally changed your name due to marriage, divorce or a formal change of name request, you may be required to provide additional documentation that reflects the change.

STEP 3: Get your photo taken

You will be required to upload a photo of yourself when you apply for a new ID card. The Reception team will review your image to ensure it meets the following requirements.

  • Plain white background
  • JPEG file format and no larger than 5mb
  • Photos must be digital – taking a picture of a printed photo is not acceptable
  • Photos must be vertical orientation
  • Good quality, colour photo, less than six months old
  • Clear, focused, unaltered image with no marks or ‘red eye’
  • Face looking directly at the camera, not tilted
  • Appropriate brightness and contrast to show your natural skin tones (no filters)
  • Hair off your face so that the edges of your face are visible
  • Eyes open
  • Natural expression (or you can smile!)
  • If you usually wear attire for religious reasons, or you wear glasses or facial jewellery, your photo can include these items

STEP 4: Submit your request

You must complete and submit a request form. Before starting your application, have your identification documents and photo ready to upload.

STEP 5: Collect your card
If you study at our Lake Macquarie campus, collect your ID card from the Reception. If you study at our Sydney campus, collect your ID card from the School of Nursing. If you are a distance education student, we will mail your ID card.

Request a Replacement Card

If you damage or lose your ID card, you will be required to pay an AUD20.00 replacement fee. You will not be issued a replacement card until you pay the fee.

Payment is not required if:

  • Your ID card is stolen (and you provide a police report)
  • You change your name
  • Your ID card is faulty

NOTE: Avondale ID cards no longer expire. If you have a silver expiry sticker on your ID card, peel the sticker off – it is no longer relevant.

Request for Other Access

Lake Macquarie Campus
If you are living on-campus in the residence halls at our Lake Macquarie campus (i.e. Ella Boyd Hall or Watson Hall), access to your dorm room will be managed by Student Life Services. You will first need to collect your ID card from the Reception, then make your way to Student Life Services to arrange access to your room.

If you purchase a parking permit for our Lake Macquarie campus, your access to the relevant parking area(s) will automatically apply.

Sydney Campus
All aspects of accommodation at our Sydney campus, including access, are managed by the Housing Services Manager. Sydney Adventist Hospital organises parking.

Parking – Non-tuition Costs

If you gain employment at Avondale and require additional access, your supervisor will request this access on your behalf. The Reception team will not process requests that come directly from students.

You may also be eligible if you are sponsored under a foreign aid program.
