Discover Avondale University
Avondale is a private provider of higher education and is therefore largely reliant on student contributions and tuition fees for the operation of its academic program. The amount you will pay for tuition will vary depending on the course you study and what country you are from. All students will be in one of the following groups.

Domestic

International

A domestic student is defined as:

an Australian Citizen, or;
an Australian Permanent Resident, or;
a Holder of an Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa or;
a New Zealand Citizen.

Commonwealth Support Place (CSP)

The Australian Government provides Commonwealth Supported Place (CSPs) offers - formerly called HEC - as a tuition fee subsidisation scheme. These are available to eligible Australian or New Zealand citizens, or to permanent humanitarian visa holders. At Avondale, CSPs are available to Undergraduate Nursing and Initial Training Education students (Undergraduate Teaching and Master of Teaching (Primary/Secondary).
If you apply to enrol in an undergraduate teacher education or nursing degree but are not allocated a Commonwealth Supported Place you will be offered a regular fee-paying place.
New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents are required by legislation to pay 100% of your student contribution upfront to Avondale and are not entitled to receive any discount from the Australian Government. If payment is not received by the Census Date, your Commonwealth Supported Place will be revoked and you will be given a Full Fee Paying place.

Non-CSP Tuition Fees

Domestic Full Fee Paying Students are students who wish to pay their fees direct to Avondale University and do not wish to use, or are not eligible for FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP.

Government Financial Assistance

All Australian citizens who are full fee-paying students at Avondale are able to secure FEE-HELP which enables you to study without paying tuition costs up front. FEE-HELP doesn't cover bridging courses, materials, services and facility charges or residence hall fees.

A student is from any country other than Australia or New Zealand.

International Tuition Fees

International students are required to enroll in a full-time load of 4 units (24 credit points). Pricing for individual units (subjects) will vary. This is a condition of a Student Visa.
International students are required to pay their fees for the first semester before being able to be enrolled as a Avondale University student. The exact fees will be outlined on the official letter of offer, including tuition fees, Student Services Amenities Fee (SSAF) and accommodation/meals (if applicable)

Students from the South Pacific Region

These fees are no longer subsidised by the South Pacific Division of the SDA Church. South Pacific Region students pay the same fees as other international students. They are required to pay each semester's fees upfront.

Overseas Heath Cover

Federal Student Loans

Avondale University is a 'Deferment-Only' institution. As a deferment-only institution, we remain committed to offering US students opportunities to study at Avondale. If you wish to apply for funding as a US student, you may be eligible for a private loan. Being a deferment-only institution means we will not accept new students applying for United States Federal Loans, including loans applied for under the Direct Loan Program or the Federal Family Education Loan Program.

Private Student Loans

If you are successful in obtaining a private loan, Avondale University will normally receive 2 cheques over the course of 12 months or the period of enrolment up to 12 months for each loan.

If you make any changes to your enrolment such as a Leave of Absence (LOA) or course withdrawal, it is very important you advise Student Finance so that the necessary reporting adjustments can be made to your loan.

Deferring Loans

Avondale University can approve deferments for students who have already received US Federal Student Loans. If you have in the past received a US Federal Student Loan and you are enrolled at Avondale University on at least a part-time basis, you can apply to defer repayment of those loans. Please contact your lender for the appropriate deferment form and submit this with your request to Student Finance.

Accounts & Other Fees

Students have two (2) accounts accessible through Student Connect under the Finance tab:
• Tuition Account (incl. Student Services Amenities Fees (SSAF))– current/historical tuition and SAAF historical invoices. You will also be able to view your tuition/SSAF balance along with any payments made towards these fees by clicking Tuition Payments Received.
• General Account – Other transactions e.g. late enrolment fees, library, non-tuition charges, tuition payment plans etc. Click General Account Balance.

Tuition Invoices

• Once you have completed the online unit enrolment process through Student Connect you can then run your current tuition invoice.
• Under the Finance header select – Tuition Current Invoice. 
• If you make any changes to your enrolment, you will need run a new tuition invoice.

General Account Invoices

• General Account invoices e.g. late payment fees, late enrolment fees, library fines are all emailed to your Avondale Student email.
• The invoiced charges will be visible on your General Account the following business day
• Under the Finance header select – General Account Balance and if you wish to view future amounts due select "View records for (current year)"
• Please note reminders are not sent, please contact us if you cannot make payment by the due date

Parking

Lake Macquarie Campus

Parking is free on the Lake Macquarie campus. Residential students are required to register their vehicle in the ResLife portal and use the designated residential parking areas.

Students/On Campus Residences are not to park spaces identified as Staff, Disabled, and Visitor or Service bays.

Sydney Campus

Parking for residents, staff, and visitors across the entire Hospital estate is on a user pays basis. Pre-paid parking can be achieved through either an Annual Pass or a Parking Pass. Parking is managed through the hospital’s Security Department. Application for, payment and issuing of parking permits is with Security. Please Note: no charge applies to vehicles that enter and leave the estate within a 10-minute timeframe.

Fitlife Gym and Pool - Purchasing Semester Membership

Fitlife Health Club is a privately operated business located on the Avondale Campus. It has all the facilities of a standard commercial fitness centre as well as an outdoor 25m heated pool.

Student FitlLife membership for 2024 ($103) includes pool access (purchased before census date each semester).
Student Pool Access - pay $4 for each visit to swim or $3 for each visit to be a spectator.
Students can purchase a Pool Pass for 20 visits for $75 or 40 visits for $150 (directly from FitLife).

Lockers - Lake Macquarie Campus Day Student Lockers

Student lockers at the Lake Macquarie Campus are placed in a central campus location allowing students to store their belongings securely. Students have the option to pay locker hire per week or for a full semester;

$30 per week (Sunday to Friday)*
$70 per semester *

*$30 replacement key charge for keys not returned.

Text Books

Textbooks are available from the Avondale Book Shop. The average cost for textbooks may vary from $400 AUD to $600 AUD per semester.

Receipt/Invoice Reprinting Charge:

Students who require more than two Tuition or General receipts reprinted or emailed will be charged a $10 fee. Requests must be made via email to [email protected] and will be processed within 48 hours.

Course Specific Costs

Students in some courses may incur additional costs for course materials (e.g. teaching aid materials for BEd students, lab fees as well as art and photography supplies for Visual Arts students, coaching charges for PE students) etc. Course Coordinators are able to advise on these details for specific courses.

Nursing Uniforms

Students are required to purchase nurses' uniforms in the first year of the course. The cost is approximately $200.
