Student Services and Amenities Fee

The Student Services and Amenities Fee provides funding for student services and amenities of a non-academic nature. Some of the services provided by SSAF include:

  1. counselling and pastoral care
  2. food services, sporting and recreational activities
  3. student advocacy (ASA & ANSA)

What is SSAF?

SSAF (Student Services and Amenities Fee) aims to provide a balanced, practical approach to funding campus services and amenities of a non-academic nature. The SSAF has provided Avondale the opportunity to invest in student associations and ASA/ANSA driven activities. Listed below are annual reports and proposed SSAF allocation reports.

The SSAF is calculated based on your enrolled study load as at the census date. In accordance with Government regulations, the maximum amount that any student may be charged for SSAF in 2024 is $351 (full time study) and $263.25 (part time study).

When is SSAF due?
SSAF payments are due by the SSAF census date. ( SA1 is 20/09/2024 and SA2 is 15/10/2024)

Students can pay the SSAF upfront or, if eligible, they can use an SA-HELP loan to cover this fee. If you have an SA-HELP loan in place, SSAF cost will be automatically deferred to your tax file. Eligible SA-HELP students will be sent an invitation to apply once enrolled in their units.

If you are making an upfront payment, SSAF census date is the last date you can pay outstanding SSAF amounts. If you have not paid outstanding SSAF amounts by census date you may not be able to enrol, re-enrol, graduate, obtain a transcript or view exam results online.

How the SSAF fee is processed:

You will be invoiced up front (separately from your course fees) at the beginning of each study period based on the course location, study mode and number of units enrolled.

The invoice will be emailed to your Avondale student email at the beginning of each semester for which you are enrolled.

  • Study Period 1 (SA1) includes, semester 1 and year long units
  • Study Period 2 (SA2) includes, semester 2 units and year long units

If you are studying a year long unit you will incur a SSAF charge in SA1 and SA2 noting that you will not be charged more than the maximum for the year based on your location and study mode.

Australian citizens, permanent humanitarian visa holders (resident in Australia) and qualifying New Zealand citizens can:

  • pay the full SSAF amount up front
  • pay some of the SSAF upfront and apply for a SA-HELP loan for the remainder
  • Apply for a SA-HELP loan for the full SSAF amount

All other students must pay the SSAF up front by the payment due date.

SA-HELP Loan & How to apply:
A SA-HELP loan allows students to borrow from the Commonwealth to cover some or all of their Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).

Eligible SA-HELP students will be sent an invitation to apply once enrolled in their units.

Students who receive a SA-HELP loan will have part or their entire SSAF paid to the College by the Commonwealth and a SA-HELP debt recorded for them with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

Check for eligibility: http://studyassist.gov.au

Note: students who are enrolled in non-award and cross-institutional study are not eligible for SA-HELP loan assistance and must pay the SSAF in full to the University.
