Avondale students are able (and in some cases required) to study units at another university and have them contribute to their course. This enhances course outcomes for students.
Cross-institutional study can be undertaken as either:
- A course requirement that includes psychology units undertaken at the University of New England (UNE) through an agreement (MOU) with Avondale University.
- A unit elective undertaken through UNE in areas covered by Avondale’s partnership.
- A unit studied through another university.
Course requirement (UNE)
For some courses, cross-institutional study is a part of the course structure. An example of this is the Bachelor of Arts (Counselling) where Psychology units are an integral part of the course structure, or a BA with a major or minor in Psychology. Psychology units are studied online at UNE but count directly towards the Avondale course. Instructions for undertaking cross-institutional study at UNE are provided in Section A below.
Units at other universities
Students may be able to undertake units at other universities as part of their course, such as areas of study not available at Avondale. These options must be approved by the relevant Course Convenor first. These students should follow the process outlined in Section B below.
Students must consult with the Course Convenor and Student Administration Services (SAS) who will assist in the processes outlined in undertaking cross-institutional study.

Cross-Institutional Study ~ Other Universities
To undertake a cross-institutional unit at another university, students complete the following steps:
- Discuss the potential cross-institutional unit with their course convener to ensure it will be acceptable for the course.
- Complete a Cross-Institutional Study Application (CIS) form listing the unit intended to study, which Avondale unit it will replace, and the reason for the cross institutional study.
- Have the course or strand convener sign this form and then submit it to Student Administration Services (SAS), either in person or emailed to [email protected].
- When this form is approved, students can apply for cross-institutional study at the other university. SAS can assist with any required documentation for this application (letter of approval, transcript, signing the home provider endorsement form).
After the cross-institutional study is completed, students must obtain an official transcript with the grade(s) for the cross-institutional study. The transcript must then be provided to Student Administration Services as soon as possible, and no later than the published deadline for the upload of grades to allow sufficient time to grant the cross-institutional study credit especially if it is required for graduation.
