English Language Requirements

Courses at Avondale are delivered in the English language. Applicants require appropriate English language proficiency for admission to Avondale and the level of English required depends on the course. International applicants and those whose primary language is not English, must demonstrate proficiency in English by one of the following ways:

7 overall score with a minimum score of 7 for listening, reading, and speaking, and 6.5 in writing

66 overall score with a minimum of 66 for listening, reading, and speaking, and 56 in writing
TOEFL iBT
94 overall score with a minimum of 24 for listening, reading, and writing, and 23 for speaking
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)
185 overall score with a minimum of 185 in listening, reading, and speaking, and 176 for writing
Occupational English Test (OET)
Minimum score of B for listening, reading and speaking, and C+ for writing.
English at school
Official documentary evidence that English is your primary language and you have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in a recognised country, including at least two years between years 7 and 12. Refer to NMBA website for recognised country list.
Secondary schooling in one or more of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom or the United States of America.
Official documentary evidence of at least five years of primary and secondary schooling, including at least two years between Year 7 and Year 12
Test result must not be older than 12 months from date of course commencement, within a maximum of two test sittings in a 12-month period and only if test requirements met NMBA standard (see NMBA website).

English Language Proficiency Requirements for Nurses in Australia

In line with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) Registered Nurse Accreditation Standards, Bachelor of Nursing applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency either by providing a written declaration that English is their primary language or evidence that they have achieved the minimum English language test results as specified in the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia’s (NMBA) English language skills registration standard. These regulations affecting nurse registration and employment in Australia may change subject to amendments by the NMBA. 7.5 overall score, with a minimum score of 8.0 for speaking and listening, and 7.0 for reading and writing

Official documentary evidence of at least six years of secondary schooling
Test results for teaching courses must not be older than 12 months from date of commencement, and 24 months for the Undergraduate Certificate in Science.

English Language Proficiency Requirements for Teachers in NSW

In line with the English language proficiency requirements for teachers in New South Wales, international students require an (IELTS) of at least 8.0 for speaking and listening as a requirement for graduating from Avondale’s undergraduate education courses.

79 overall score, with a minimum of 20 for listening, reading, and speaking, and 24 for writing

The English entry requirements listed above are a minimum level and applicants are advised to take further English study after enrolment if specific language challenges are encountered.
