Library Accessibility & Support

The Avondale Library Service is committed to providing equitable access to library resources, services, and spaces for students with a disability, health condition, or accessibility needs.

Library support is available for students who have an approved Avondale University Reasonable Adjustment Plan (RAP) and includes reasonable adjustments to ensure fair and dignified access to learning, research, and study spaces.

All support is provided respectfully and confidentially.

Who Can Access Library Accessibility Support?

Library accessibility support is available to:

• Current Avondale University students
• With an approved Reasonable Adjustment Plan (RAP)
• Who have registered their approved library-related adjustments with the Library through the Equity/Accessibility Office

How Library Accessibility Support Works

Library accessibility support has two parts:

1. Registering Your Library Adjustments (one-time process)

Your library adjustments are registered with the Library by the Equity/Accessibility Office, based on your approved Reasonable Adjustment Plan (RAP).

You do not complete this registration yourself.

Once registered, the Library will:

• Record your approved library adjustments
• Confirm that support is in place
• Explain how to request library services when you need them

This registration allows library staff to support you without asking you to explain your disability or provide personal details.

2. Requesting Library Support When You Need It

Once registered, you can request specific library services or supports at any time using the online form below.

You can use this form to request support, in accordance with your approved adjustments, such as:

• Help accessing or borrowing items
• Alternative or accessible formats of readings
• Adjusted loan conditions
• Assistance using library spaces or equipment
• Support accessing quiet or low-sensory study areas
• Help with library or Learning Advisor appointments

You do not need to provide details about your disability or explain why you need the service.  Your request will be matched against your existing library registration.

Not Yet Registered for Library Adjustments?

If you do not yet have an approved Reasonable Adjustment Plan (RAP), or if library support has not been included in your plan, please contact the Equity/Accessibility Office first.

The Equity Team will work with you to assess your needs and, where appropriate, register approved library-related adjustments with the Library.

Library Access & Facilities

Lake Macquarie Campus Library

• Wheelchair access via the East side of the White Building and Car Park 5 entry
• Disabled parking located in Car Park 5
• Lift access to all library levels
• Accessible unisex toilet with emergency buzzer on the lower floor
• Wheelchair-accessible printers, scanners, and photocopiers
• Registered assistance animals are welcome

Sydney Campus Library

• Located on Level 1 of the Clinical Education Building
• Wheelchair accessible via main entry
• Accessible toilet on Level 1
• One disabled parking space at the rear of the building
• Wheelchair-accessible printers, scanners, and photocopiers
• Registered assistance animals are welcome

Privacy and confidentiality

Your privacy matters.

• Library staff only see information needed to support approved adjustments
• Diagnostic or medical details are not shared with library staff
• All records are stored securely and accessed only by authorised staff
