Scholars' Centre

A Scholars’ Centre, specifically designed for higher degree research students and visiting scholars, is located on Level 1 of the Lake Macquarie Campus Library. The Scholars’ Centre is a suite of three spaces:

1. A quiet study room complete with lockable desks and filing cabinets for each student, power points located beside each desk, whiteboards and noticeboards, wireless computer access as well as a general use computer loaded with Windows 7 and the latest Microsoft Office suite of products, SPSS, NVivo, and EndNote;

2. An adjacent seminar room available for presentations and meetings;

3. A foyer offering lounge chairs for casual reading and a display of Avondale’s own peer reviewed journals, and research journals from other universities.

The study room and seminar room are locked off from the foyer and Library outside Library opening hours, however 24/7 keycard access is available through the Library’s southern entrance. For access, contact the Head Librarian

A Reference Librarian is located in an office adjacent to the Centre and are on hand to offer research support.

Sunday to Thursday - 24 hour access
Friday - closed from 5.00pm
Saturday - open from 6.00pm

Research Student - Opening Hours

Sunday - 1.00pm to 9.00pm
Monday to Thursday - 8.00am to 9.30pm
Friday - 8.00am to 3.30pm

Computing

Avondale Library provides both wireless and network access to computers and the Internet for research and study purposes. Computers, data points and power outlets are located throughout the Library. Students wishing to access the wireless environment should contact Library staff or IT Services.

Use of Study Rooms

Avondale University Library - Lake Macquarie Campus provides group study rooms for the use of Avondale University students and staff. Gruop study rooms are for group use only. The rooms are not available for individual study.

Location

Six group study rooms are located on the upper level of the library opposite Watson Hall. These rooms are available on a first come, first served basis.
The Dyason-Williams Study Room, also located on the upper level of the library, is available for academic support appointments only and not available for normal student use.
The TMC classroom is located on the lower floor of the library and may be used for group study when not in use for lectures.

Whiteboard markers and erasers are available from the Loans Desk in exchange for a Student ID card.

Use of group study rooms

Group study rooms are to be used solely for group study (2 or more persons in the group)
Individuals using a group study room that have not booked, will be asked to vacate the room in favour of a booked group.
Group study rooms are occupied by a number of different groups each day. Please leave the room clean and tidy for the next group.
No food or drink (except bottled water) may be consumed within these rooms or within the library.
No books, papers or personal items should be left in an unoccupied group study room.
