Tech Services

Our support hours are 8:30 am - 5 pm Monday - Thursday and 8:30 am - 12 noon on Friday.

To log a request with us, email [email protected], with a detailed description of the problem.

If your request is urgent, phone extension 111 (on-campus) or +61 2 4980 2111 (off-campus), or visit Service Desk at the Lake Macquarie campus. We are located on the ground floor of the Turner building.

Supported Tech

Any Windows or macOS device purchased new within the past 5 years.

Not supported: Chromebooks

Supported email clients:

  • Outlook (preferred)
  • Apple Mail
  • Windows Mail

Not supported: Thunderbird

Supported web browsers:

  • Microsoft Edge (preferred)

Limited support may be provided for other browsers.

How to connect to the Wifi?

Enter your Avondale email address (e.g. [email protected]) and password, then press the continue/accept/trust to connect to the Avondale Wifi network.

iPhone

Enter your Avondale email address and password, then select Trust.

Android

You'll need the following settings:

CA Certificate: Use system certificates

Online Certificate Status: Request certificate status

Domain: wireless.avondale.edu.au

Identity: (Your Student ID eg. s12345678)

Anonymous Identity: (Must be blank)

Password: (Your Avondale password)

EAP Method: PEAP

Phase 2 Authentication: MSCHAPV2

Android can be tricky, so come and visit us in Tech Services if you've followed this and still need help.
macOS

On macOS, you'll need to press the continue button to trust the certificate, and then enter your laptop password (when you open the lid).

Select Avondale
Enter Avondale email address and password.
Select Continue if prompted.
Enter the username and password you use to open your computer.
Windows
Enter your Avondale email address and password.
Select Continue.
What if it doesn't work?
  1. Try again (no, seriously)
  2. Forget the network and connect again.
  3. Check your password online by signing out and back into your webmail.
  4. Type your password into Notepad (on Windows) or TextEdit (on macOS) and copy-paste it.

Password Manager

Tech Services recommends BitWarden for use a password manager because of its security guarantees. Students may be interested in the free version of their product.

Avondale Staff are required to use our official password manager to setup. To login, enter your Avondale email address, and select Use Single Sign On.

How to configure the browser extension...

Our password manager is installed in Microsoft Edge by default. To finish setting it up:

  1. Change Accessing: bitwarden.com to Accessing: self-hosted.
  2. Enter the host: https://vault.avondale.edu.au and select save.
  3. Follow the normal instructions to login:
    • Enter your email address.
    • Select Use single sign-on.
  4. Finally, find the browser extension icon again, and open its settings.
  5. Change the Autofill settings to be like the final images below.
    • Set Make Bitwarden your default password manager to selected.
    • Set Show autofill suggestions on form fields to selected.
    • Default autofill setting for login items to Do not autofill on page load
  6. Finally, in Microsoft Edge, turn off the default password manager, which is insecure:
  7. Finally, move your Avondale passwords into Avondale's official password manager.

Avondale Staff are able to redeem Bitwarden for their family (up to 6 people).

Stuck printing?

If printing using File > Print, check that PaperCut is signed in.

  1. Find the PaperCut icon (task bar or menu bar)
  2. Select View My Printers
  3. Select Change user (if there)
  4. Select Sign in with Microsoft
  5. Then sign in as normal in your web browser.

Microsoft Office 365

Microsoft Office 365 is available for download from Microsoft directly. Simply download, install, and then sign in using your Avondale account. These are native apps for both Windows and macOS. Microsoft Office 365 is also available in a web browser.
